Children’s Day in Argentina: When It Is and What to Give

In Argentina, Children’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of August. It’s worth stating because it changed in 2021: it used to be the second Sunday, and there’s still a lot of outdated information going around.

Upcoming dates

Year	Date
2026	Sunday, August 16
2027	Sunday, August 15
2028	Sunday, August 20
2029	Sunday, August 19
2030	Sunday, August 18

The change was decided by the toy industry chamber, to separate the date from the August long weekend and avoid losing sales to travel. It isn’t an official state holiday, so there’s no decree: it’s a commercial convention, which explains why it could be moved.

There’s also World Children’s Day, on November 20, marking the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. That’s something else, and it isn’t celebrated commercially here.

What people give

It’s the day of toys, plain and simple. From a flower shop’s side, what we bring are two formats:

• Combos with a stuffed animal. The classic for little ones, and the most requested option for sending from a distance.
• Combos with chocolates and candy, which work for all ages.
• An arrangement for the mom along with the child’s gift. It sounds odd, and it’s one of the touches that goes over best.

If the child is far away

It’s the situation we’re asked about most: grandparents, godparents, or a parent who lives in another city or another country. Three things that help:

• Coordinate with an adult in the household. A surprise delivery that nobody receives ends up coming back.
• Choose Sunday morning or Saturday, not the afternoon.
• Send a written note. Kids keep cards far more than you’d think.

A different idea

A plant of their own works surprisingly well for a child: a succulent or a cactus in a pot they can paint. It’s one of the few things a child can take full care of, and it usually lasts for years. The options that survive beginner watering are in plants that are almost impossible to kill.
