What gerbera daisies mean
The gerbera is probably the most cheerful flower you can give. Its shape —petals radiating around a well-defined center— reads almost like a child's drawing of the sun, and that explains a good part of its effect.
General meaning
It is associated with joy, innocence and positive energy. It carries no romantic or solemn weight, so it works in situations where a rose would be too much: a coworker's birthday, a recovery, a move, a promotion.
By color
- Yellow and orange: optimism and vitality. The most popular choices for cheering someone up.
- Pink: tenderness and affection with no romantic undertone.
- Red: here, yes, love — but lighter and less formal than a rose's.
- White: purity and calm; it blends well in mixed arrangements.
A practical tip
The gerbera has a hollow stem and bends if the water isn't clean. Change the water every two days and cut one centimeter (under half an inch) off the stem at an angle: that alone takes it from lasting four days to lasting more than a week. There are more tips in how long flowers last.
