Tuberose Meaning

You do not choose tuberose for how it looks. You choose it for how it smells: it is the most intensely fragrant flower sold commercially, and a single stem is enough to make a whole room smell of tuberose for days.

What it symbolizes

  • Sensuality and pleasure. Its name in several languages ties it directly to desire.
  • Purity, at the same time. Because of the flower's pure white, it is widely used in religious ceremonies.
  • Remembrance and tribute. In Mexico it is the traditional flower of the Day of the Dead and of altars.

That double reading —sensual and ceremonial at once— is very rare, and it explains why the flower appears in such different settings.

The practical warning

The fragrance can be too much. In a small or poorly ventilated room, a tuberose bouquet gives many people a headache. That is not an exaggeration: it is the most common complaint about this flower. If you are giving it, think about where it will sit. In a large living room it is wonderful; in a bedroom or an office, it is a problem.

When to choose it

  • For someone who explicitly values the scent of flowers.
  • For a large, well-ventilated space.
  • For an evening event, where the fragrance works in your favor.
  • Avoid it for a hospital, a shared office or a closed room. The same goes for Oriental lilies.

How to make it last longer

Tuberose opens from the bottom up along the stem. Remove the lower flowers as soon as they wilt and the rest keep opening: that way it lasts eight to ten days.

Availability of each flower changes with the season. If you are looking for a specific flower, ask us before ordering and we will confirm whether we have it.
