Flowers for a quinceañera (15th birthday party)

A fiesta de 15 —the coming-of-age party many Argentine girls have when they turn fifteen— has three distinct floral moments, and it is worth thinking about them separately, because they aren't solved with the same kind of arrangement.

1. The birthday girl's bouquet

She carries it at her entrance and during the waltz. It has to be light —she holds it in one hand for quite a while— and it shouldn't hide the dress. The most common formats are the compact round bouquet and the short cascade bouquet. Roses, lilies or a mix with fine foliage.

2. The centerpieces

The practical rule: low, so guests can see each other, or very tall on a slim base, so the line of sight passes underneath. Medium height is the worst option — it blocks the view and gets in the way all night.

Plan on roughly one centerpiece for every ten guests, and coordinate them with the palette of the dress and the venue.

3. The entrance and the photo area

Tall arrangements at the entrance and, if there is a photo backdrop, a garland or a floral arch. That is where almost all the photos get taken, so it is usually worth the investment.
