How to choose a bouquet of flowers without getting it wrong
Choosing a bouquet looks like an aesthetic decision, and it is not: it is a sequence of practical decisions. If you make them in order, the aesthetic part takes care of itself.
1. What do you want to say?
This comes first because it defines the color, and color is what communicates.
- Romantic love: red. Roses, tulips.
- Friendship and encouragement: yellow and orange. Sunflowers, gerberas.
- Gratitude and affection: pink. Roses, hydrangeas.
- Respect or apologies: white.
- General celebration, no specific message: mixed colors. It is the safe option when you do not want to commit to anything.
The details are in the language of flowers.
2. Who is receiving it, and where?
This question rules out more options than any other:
- Office: no red, no strong scent, a size that fits on a desk.
- Small apartment: nothing three feet tall.
- Hospital: an arrangement with its own base, unscented. And check whether they accept flowers.
- Home with cats: no lilies. They are seriously toxic.
- Older person living alone: something that does not require handling a heavy vase.
3. Do they have a vase?
If you do not know, choose an arrangement on a base with floral foam: it arrives ready, it does not tip over, and it only needs water. It is the right answer for an office, a hospital or a home you do not know.
4. What is in season?
This is where the balance between what you pay and what you get is decided. A seasonal flower gives you more volume, more scent and more days for the same money than one forced out of season. If you are flexible, let the season choose.
5. When does it need to arrive?
- To a private home: afternoon works better than morning.
- To an office: between 10 and 12, never late on a Friday.
- For a peak date: book a week ahead.
What really makes the difference
After all of that: the card. A medium bouquet with two lines of your own is remembered more than a huge one with "Happy birthday." There are examples in what to write on the card. And the most common mistakes are in ten common mistakes when giving flowers.
Availability of each flower changes with the season. If you are looking for a specific flower, ask us before ordering and we will confirm whether we have it.
