Sending flowers anonymously
Florerías Argentinas
It can be done, it is more common than it seems, and there are a few practical conditions worth knowing beforehand.
How it is done
- Leave the card unsigned, or sign it with something only that person will understand.
- Explicitly ask that your name not be mentioned. Add it as a note on the order: if you don't say so, the driver might mention you with the best of intentions.
- The order details are still yours. We need your contact information for the receipt and in case there is any problem with the delivery. The anonymity is toward the recipient, not toward the flower shop.
What doesn't change
We still need the details of the recipient: name, full address with floor and apartment number, and a phone number. Without a phone number, an anonymous delivery that finds no one home has no way of being resolved: we can't call the person to coordinate, and we can't call you to have you call them either.
When it works well
- As a surprise with a later reveal: you send it unsigned and show up yourself later. It is the most common use.
- A thank-you gesture where you don't want the other person to feel they owe you something.
- Discreet support: someone going through a hard time who you would rather not have to thank anyone.
- A game between two people who already have that dynamic.
When it is a bad idea
It is worth saying clearly:
- If the person doesn't know who you are and there is no prior relationship. A bouquet with no sender at the front door can cause unease instead of joy, especially if the person lives alone.
- If there was a conflict or the other person asked for distance. Then an anonymous delivery is not a romantic gesture: it is pressure.
- If you expect a reply. There won't be one. There is no one to reply to.
- At an office, where an unsigned bouquet becomes the talk of the whole floor and can make things quite uncomfortable.
The alternative that is almost always better
Sign with something minimal but identifiable: an initial, a date, an inside reference. It keeps the mystery, avoids the discomfort, and gives the other person the chance to reply if they want to. It is usually the right balance.
You can leave the card unsigned when you complete your order.
