The Birth Flower for Every Month

Just like birthstones, every month has its birth flower. It’s an old tradition — it comes from the Roman custom of offering flowers on birthdays — and it’s a simple way to make a birthday bouquet feel less generic.

The flower for each month

Month	Flower	Meaning
January	Carnation	Lasting love and admiration
February	Violet	Modesty and loyalty
March	Daffodil	Rebirth and hope
April	Daisy	Innocence and loyal love
May	Lily of the valley	Sweetness and the return of happiness
June	Rose	Love and devotion
July	Delphinium	Lightheartedness and a good heart
August	Gladiolus	Strength of character and honor
September	Aster	Wisdom and courage
October	Calendula	Warmth and creativity
November	Chrysanthemum	Friendship and long life
December	Poinsettia (estrella federal)	Good wishes and renewal

The caveat for Argentina

This list was put together in the Northern Hemisphere. Here the seasons are reversed, so several of these flowers are not in season in their assigned month. May’s lily of the valley blooms in the European spring, which is our fall; March’s daffodil doesn’t show up here until August.

We’d rather say so before you order: if your birthday is in May and you want lily of the valley, we probably won’t be able to get it. What does work is keeping the color and meaning with an equivalent seasonal flower. In practice nobody notices the difference, and the card explains the rest.

How to use it well

• Write down why you chose that flower. Without the card, it’s just another bouquet.
• For couples: combining both birth flowers in the same arrangement works very well.
• For a new baby: the flower of the baby’s birth month, given to the parents.
• If the exact flower isn’t available, a dried or preserved version is an alternative that lasts for years.

And if it doesn’t suit them

The tradition is a starting point, not an obligation. If the person loves sunflowers and their month got the gladiolus, the sunflowers win. The goal is to get it right, not to follow a rulebook. Another way to personalize is in flowers by zodiac sign.

Availability of each flower changes with the season. If you are looking for a specific flower, ask us before ordering and we will confirm whether we have it.
