Girlfriend's Day (Día de la Novia) is celebrated in Argentina on October 20. One thing worth saying up front: it is a date of popular and commercial origin, with no decree or commemoration behind it, which is why some people place it on other days or have never heard of it.

What it is and what it isn't

It shouldn't be confused with Valentine's Day, which is February 14 and far more established. Girlfriend's Day works more as a seasonal excuse than as a calendar date: it falls in spring, the same week as Argentina's Mother's Day (celebrated in October), and at the time of year with the most flowers available.

If your partner doesn't have it on their radar, the element of surprise works in your favor. If they do, it is one of those dates where forgetting gets noticed.
